Shaping the story

Tools for the stage before the script — and for seeing the one you have.

• The Riff board — digital index cards for a story that isn't a script yet, two ways. Cards keeps them in an order that feels right; the endless Canvas lays the same numbered cards out freely, joins them with arrows or plain lines (in colour, with a word on them if it helps), colours them, and pins up pictures for mood and reference. Give cards title headers (scene headings look like scene headings), start from a ready-made story structure, fold everything to its titles for the big picture, and print the whole canvas on one page or save it as a PDF. When a card earns its place, send it into the script as a new scene — or pin it to any existing line as a note. The card stays on the board: it's the map of your story.
• Outline view — every scene as a card; drag to reorder the script itself.
• Scene rail — always-visible scene list that follows as you scroll and jumps on a click.
• Reports — scenes, locations, who speaks how much, estimated runtime. CSV export with Pro.

Notes & rewriting

Second thoughts are part of writing. Scripy gives them a home in the file.

• Margin notes — pinned to the exact line, signed with the author's name, saved inside the script as standard Fountain. They never print.
• The swap — keep an alternate version of any line in its note and trade places with one click. A/B two readings of a speech for as long as you're undecided; both always in the file.
